I've heard hundreds of Alaska extreme ski adventure stories, each with its own twist, each touching on a slew of variables and adrenaline driven experiences. Somehow, the more I have heard, the less plausible it all sounds. What is it about this place that makes people exaggerate so? I wonder as I look out through the plane window at the Pacific Ocean far below. What an appropriate place to finish our winter snowquest. After too many years of waiting it is finally time to see what they all have been going on about.

Valdez is a place where the unpredictable is predictable, the choices of mountain access, seemingly endless, flexible and unparalleled. Riders from around the world come here to test their skills and push the limits. The extremists gather here to finish off the season. Wow, sounds like a lot to bite off.

Normally, a voyage like this demands a lot of planning and preparation: who should I bring, where should I stay, who should we fly with? At the beginning of April, Andy and I have just returned from France, and I had caught up with Tom Day, film Guru/Alaska ski veteran. We were around the grill at a barbecue at Squaw. I am off tomorrow for AK. Yeah, we will see you up there. Any advice? Go with the flow, be flexible, let the experience take its own course. And check-out the motor home scene- that way no matter where you go, there you are..."
